Match report by Richard Lloyd:
Sorry lads, bit of a lame match report, but its got to be done just to ensure we keep the stats updated, whenever someone can take on the mantle and update the stats............
A BIG thank you to all the players who turned up for our first game of the year...away to Malagawathe Youth FC in Malawata.............it was a good turnout for the first game of the new year.
On a Very HOT January afternoon, the Lions chalked up a creditable draw against a young and skillful outfit. The opposition passed the ball well and obviously had not been indulging in too much xmas spirit and looked as if they had been practicing for some days before the KO.
The oppo scored early on in the game, think it was about 5 mins in and was caused by a nervous mix up in the Lions defence.....the rest of the game was very closely contested, although Lions had the better chances and should have scored a couple, but for some wasted finishing.
As the game wore on the Lions came up with an equalizer only 5 mins from time, scored by Liam who nodded the ball over the keeper from 5 yds out.
The result was a fair one, and a respectable start to 2008 for the mighty Lions......................although looking a bit jaded after some holiday festivities and more air miles clocked than most of the Chelsea team after the African Cup of Nations is over........!!
Thanks for the rest of the Lloyd family for travelling 4,000 miles to whitness the Lions in action..........
Team: Asanga, Iann, Steve H, Kaz, Lauren, Jules, John, Rich (C), Hachim, Liam (1) (MOM) and Mucky. Subs: Prev, JD, Kadi, Sylvian, Seaman
