Well a mighty Herculean effort was put in on Saturday to continue our one match unbeaten run and make it 2.
Donned in our new ‘Galacticos’ outfits we were up for this match… it did not disappoint in excitement!
Alas we faltered. A ferocious start to the game with chances at both ends saw a lot of sweat as the sun was shining brightly. A free kick at the edge of the box early on tested the keeper. Two more free kicks were wasted. The mighty lions led by the gaffer wrestled the initiative mid way through the first half with a sweetly taken shot from 10 yards out.
Lions 1: Bus Boys 0.
However the joy was short lived. A challenge from behind saw Anil yellow carded. A very good run down the right flank by their number 17 and a lovely cross and headed goal saw the game back on level terms.
Lions 1: Bus Boys 1.
A well worked deserved goal.
Then the lions came back, a well worked move saw Mick spray the ball out to the left for Mucky who was brought down (judged fairly by the ref) by their last defender. Late on in the first half whilst trying to clear our lines the afore mentioned number 17 (their best player) danced through two defenders to rifle one past the oncoming keeper. A poor goal that in the end cost us dear. Two yellow cards to the Bus Boys slowed them down a bit.
A corner in the dying seconds of the half saw Mick test the keeper but he was equal to the task. (Keeper made 3 or 4 very good saves) Second half saw a great fight back from the lions! Not since the 30th of October 2004 did we stop a team from scoring in a half. (a worrying statistic!!! await my next email)
A petulant and fired up Mucky saw red mist when the linesman inexplicably waved judging the ball out of play. Yellow card Mucky. Shortly thereafter Mucky was clearly brought down in the penalty area but again no luck with the ref.
A valiant display of gritty football ensued but we were unable to break down their defence despite a host of subs being used.
Result: Lions 1 : Bus Boys 2
A disappointing defeat but second half we played with pride. Well done lads! Our next match despite being in our new ground will be against the local home team.
BRING ON THE HINDU COLLEGE OLD BOYS! |
