Another encounter with Old Anandians and we were sure to have goals. Unfortunately due to the grass not having been cut at Cooray Park the tempo of the game was slower than normal which suited the old boys but not us so much. We were at them from the off but it was a really tight game with little goalsmouth incident in the first half. Martin won a penalty after being brought down by the keeper. He coolly side footed it to the keepers left but due to a lack of pace it was easily saved.
0-0 at halftime
The second half started more brightly and with about an hour in the game gone Mucky fired the Lions into the lead after a neat through ball by the Gaffer.
Old Anandians had nothing on our back four and simply could not get through.
However a speculative 30 yard lob caught Asanga off his line and they equalized to leave it at 1-1.
The Lions then roared back and were all over the opposition when the final whistle blew.
A good but not great game. |
