Moratuwa University team turned up with 20 players whilst with 5 minutes till kick off the Lions could only pull together 10 until our keeper turned up just at kick off. We only had one sub and after barely 5 minutes Mahlon had to come off with his ankle gone again. :x
Once again the curator had forgotten to cut the grass and a scrappy but dominant Lions took the game to the Uni boys. Unfortunately a quick break and cool finishing saw the opposition steal the first goal. :?
The Lions were getting a bit restless as we could see there were goals in the game but the final pass and a bit of poor finishing never saw us really temp the keeper until the 40th minute. Randy took the ball in the middle ran out to the right and crossed in a lovely ball for Mucky to head in past the keeper at the back post. 1-1.
The Uni were still rocking from this goal when after the restart the Lions stole the ball put it through the middle and Martin to knock on to Mucky who slotted it past the on rushing keeper. 2 goals in 2 minutes for the Lions. :lol:
A couple of minutes later the whistle blew for halftime.

The second half was total and complete domination by the Lions and the fact that only one more goal was scored in this half was down to some poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping and some awfully long grass! After the restart the Lions were camped in the Moratuwa Half with balls being played through their back four at will. A few dodgy offside flags were waved but the Lions kept cool. One pass from Matt to Mucky saw a one on one with the keeper. Mucky slammed it to the left of the keeper and somehow he got his fingers to it and turned it spinning just past the post. Another good one on one for Mucky with a pass from Chandu saw Mucky blast it over the bar! Finally after good work from Keith on the right he fed it again for Mucky who ran in from the right and riffled it in across the keeper to the far post and in. Martin was awaiting any rebound. Muckys first hat-trick! :D
Mucky had one more one to one and again shot just high after getting his feet caught under the ball due to the thick grass. On another day it could have been and maybe should have been 6… may never get a better opportunity!
In the dying seconds Moratua had a long range shot which hit the crossbar but really a game of total domination despite only a 3:1 scoreline. Obviously beers were on Mucky! :wink:
