So, I think this makes it a somber 6 defeats in a row for the mighty lions. However, Saturdays performance (especially second half) , from a side weakened through the absence of our resident keeper and only 1 sub, was a glimpse from recent glory days. Could this be the tell-tale start of a resurgence form the LIONS!?
To the game then;
First half exposed our weaknesses and within the first 10 minutes, a goal scramble saw an easy chance slip past the defenders and under the arms of Karsten(who,BTW, proved a very worthy stand-in keeper ). LIONS heads were up but were unable to keep out another 3 before the mid point. Although no LIONS goals, there were good efforts from Mucky; hitting the base of the left post, and a few near-target headers from Steve-A and Matt, but altogether sealing a 4-0 result for Kandana at half time.
Not to be outdone by a bunch of young scally-wags, a spirited LIONS side took to the field for the second half. Fueled by sickly-sweet lime juice and some white 'energy' powder (!??(glucose I think(hope))), the LIONS were a markedly more-organised and 'gelled' unit; stringing passes together, playing confidently in the opponents half, repeatedly testing their increasing volatile defenders, and it was only a matter of time before the break would come. A strong run from Mucky down the left flank saw him cut-back into the 18 yard box only to be sythed by his out-witted defender. The resulting penalty was comfortably 'tucked-away' by the gaffer; a well struck side-footer accurately placed left of the diving keeper.
10 minutes later, a breakaway for the LIONS via a long defensive clearance connected with a pacefull forward attached from Mucky. He stood his ground against the lone defender and upon entering the 18yrd box, let fly with a 'sweet shot' that found refuge in their top left-hand corner. Goal of the year so far for sure. We continued to dominate to the obvious frustration of Kandana as their rash tackles resulted in a series of fouls and a yellow card (we'll not mention Don's, em, 'challenge' - ah-hem!!). Both sides' tempers frayed as the end of the game closed in but all finished in good spirits, i'm glad to say. 4-2 final score for Kandana but a good game by all. Keep it up boys!! |
