At last, victory for the mighty Lions against the Soccer Fans FC Veterans. A worthy display from both sides of good team football, hard work and, well, quite simply, some excellent finishing!!!
The first goal came mid way into the first half; a pacey attach from Chicksy(Colin) saw him fend off his defender up to about 30 yrds from goal before letting fly with an accurately placed lob over the keeper; its flight never missing target and the keeper could do nothing but watch. This goals defo up there contesting Mucky for Goal of the season.
An equalizer soon into the second half from the Soccer Fans quickly flattened the mood and it seamed the old lions bad luck would kick in. However, we picked ourselves up and after some good pressure play down the left, a pass across the box met with Chicksy who cut inside and left fly with a powerfull drive which came off the keepers hand but ultimately into the left corner of goal. 2-1 Loins.
Even at 2-1 up, the same form that’s dogged us all this year looked like it might bite again. But 5 minutes from time, a great ball over the midfield met with Ali (me) on the right wing and he chased it inside the 18 yr box, cut inside 1 defender before unleashing a shot from a truly spent pair of legs. Joy immediately followed as the ball flew into the top right corner. Sweet! 3-1 and surely victory had been secured for the Lions.
Final whistle was greeted by exhausted elation from the tired Lions. Hand-shakes n smiles abounded as this well spirited game was appreciated by all. Nice one!! |
