INTEREST IN SILVA

There was a lot of interest surrounding Brazil defender Thiago Silva, who is currently at Paris St Germain. Barcelona were very much interested in taking him to the camp Nou, but they ultimately failed in their attempts due to several reasons.

They were unable to convince PSG to sell Thiago Silva, while the player has now revealed that Barcelona were not prepared to pay enough money for his services. Silva is currently the world's most expensive defender after he cost the French club £ 35 million in transfer money for his transfer from AC Milan.

After interest from Barcelona, he recently extended his contract with Paris St Germain. This has made him the highest earning defender in the world. His contract is thought to be worth around £ 10 million per year. The 28-year-old has now revealed that it was not a difficult decision to reject the approaches of Barcelona because he had to take a wage cut in order to join the Spanish outfit.

Barcelona may be one of the best clubs in the world, but they have had a lot of problems with central defenders in recent times.

Carlos Puyol is soon expected to retire from football, which will only add to the misery.

"It was a difficult decision to say no twice to Barcelona. It was never a secret that I have admired them since I was a kid and that I always wished I could play for Barcelona.

But life is made of hard decisions that sometimes go against what you dream of. I heard people saying I was just thinking of the money, but they forget we have families to feed. Why would I accept to earn less money to play for Barcelona? Why are players the ones supposed to sacrifice themselves?" said Silva to the Guardian.
