DDG IN GOAL FOR BRIGHTON DEFEAT

Spanish shot stopper David De Gea (DDG) was in the Manchester United goal as they suffered a disappointing start to the new Premier League season. David De Gea was unable to prevent his team from suffering a loss at home for their first league game of the new season.

Manchester United were favourites for their Premier League opener this season at the expense of Brighton and Hove Albion, but they were unable to make their status count following the 2-1 loss recorded against the Seagulls. Manchester United were beaten by Brighton at home thanks in part to two goals from German midfielder Pascal Gross.
The Brighton game was the first match for Dutchman Erik Ten Hag following his appointment as the new Manchester United boss. He had spent some years as the manager at Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam before being given the task of getting the Red Devils back to the top of English football.

For his first starting XI, Ten Hag left star player Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench as he had seen a little action in pre-season. Amidst the transfer reports of a move away from the club this summer, Ronaldo played just 45 minutes in pre-season. With Ronaldo on the bench, Ten Hag started the Brighton game with new signing Christian Eriksen in a false nine role and it came back to haunt him after the Seagulls won the game with two goals in nine first half minutes. German player Gross scored the first goal of the game in the half-hour mark before he added his brace nine minutes later to give his team a 2-0 lead at the halftime interval. David De Gea was unable to prevent the two Brighton goals. Argentine and Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister put through his own net midway into the second half to pull one back for the Red Devils, but Brighton held on to claim an historic first Premier League victory at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag and his players would be hoping to bounce back from the loss to Brighton when they take on hosts Brentford this weekend.
