SILVA LINKED

Paris St Germain defender Thiago Silva was linked with moves to Barcelona in the summer, but he signed a new contract with the club to the transfer rumours. He is now one of the best-paid defenders in the world.

The Brazilian has stated that he will not leave PSG this January or in the upcoming summer, as transfer rumours refuse to die down even after his new contract. Silva is regarded as one of the top defenders in the world, while he also holds the record for the most expensive transfer of central defender. He moved to PSG in a £ 35 million deal from AC Milan.

Bayern Munich have emerged as the latest contenders for his signature. The 29-year-old still has four years left on his current contract, and says that he is not keen on a move now. PSG are expected to challenge for all the major trophies due to the extraordinary wealth thrown at the team by the Middle Eastern owners. The club already boast of stars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani. They are top of the table with a five point advantage over fellow big spending rivals Monaco.

Their advantage over Monaco comes in the form of Champions league football. They play the German club Bayer Leverkusen in the first knockout phase this campaign.

"I want to stay here and I believe I'll see out my contract. PSG are one of the biggest clubs in the world nowadays. It's up to us to keep the team that way. I think we can replicate our good performances in the league in the Champions League. The team are doing very well and I owe my presence in FIFA's dream team to them too," said the defender about his future. He has scored three in 15 matches this season.
