The Spaniard denied both Antonio Rudiger and Callum Hudson-Odoi to ensure that his team went into the interval on level terms and without conceding. His heroics in the Manchester United goal paved the way for his team to take the lead upon restart.

Manchester United took the lead in a fortunate fashion thanks to the mistake from Italian midfielder Jorginho. Jadon Sancho capitalised on the mistake from the Chelsea midfielder to give Manchester United an advantage at the start of the second 45 minutes. Summer signing Sancho gave the Red Devils the lead with five second half minutes on the clock. The €85m man was able to score his second goal in two games after his strike during the 2-0 Champions League win over home side Villarreal. Sancho had not scored for Manchester United before the game against the Yellow Submarines last week Tuesday.

Jorginho was handed a lifeline to atone for his error via the penalty spot when Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Chelsea player Thiago Silva in the box. The Italian international scored the resulting penalty in the 69th minute to restore parity for his team. The goal from Jorginho ensured that Chelsea maintained their unbeaten run spanning over two months.

The 1-1 result from the game stopped the two-match losing run for Manchester United.
